Tempera vs Tempura
Tempera ( pronounced 'TEMP-rah' )is paint. Defined as "A painting medium in which pigment is mixed with water-soluble glutinous materials such as size or egg yolk."
Tempura ( pronounced 'temp-POOR-uh' ) is food. Defined as "seafood or vegetables dipped in batter and deep-fried."
(Thanks to Dictionary.com for the definitions)
I'd care less about how people spell it, since spelling isn't everyone's thing, but for crying out loud, at least pronounce it right so I'm not imagining you painting with batter-fried shrimp...
Other fun words art novices trip over a lot:
- Gesso ( I hear a lot of 'Ghesso' instead of the proper 'Jesso' )
- Alizarin
- Dioxazine
- Quinacridone
- Anthraquinone
- Cadmium
- Cerulean
- Kolinsky
